This literature review investigates the relationship between Total Quality Management (TQM), competitiveness, and operational performance in Peruvian micro and small enterprises (MSEs). The review is based on an analysis of 35 articles published between 1990 and 2023, subject to peer review. 25 publications were analyzed regarding the relationship between TQM and operational performance, and 10 papers were reviewed regarding the relationship between TQM and competitive advantage. We discovered only two papers on Peruvian companies, demonstrating the lack of TQM literature in the Peruvian setting. According to this study, TQM procedures are favorably connected with the competitiveness and operational performance of MSEs in Peru. The authors have attempted to illuminate the concept of quality in Peruvian corporations. Implementing TQM standards improves product and service quality, customer happiness, and staff engagement, enhancing the competitiveness of MSMEs. The review also emphasizes the significance of TQM as a strategy for improving the operational performance of MSEs in terms of productivity, efficiency, and cost reduction. The evaluation demonstrates that the influence of TQM on the operational performance and competitive advantage of Peruvian MSMEs is a mostly unknown and understudied topic. The outcome of the current study is that Peruvian and international scholars should concentrate on operation management methods in Peru.
